# gstinapi.in — GSTIN Verification API for India > A REST API that returns live registration details for any Indian GSTIN (GST > Identification Number) — legal name, trade name, registration status, taxpayer > type, constitution of business, registration date and registered address — > sourced through licensed GST Suvidha Provider (GSP) infrastructure. Based in > Surat, Gujarat, India. Not affiliated with the > Government of India or the GST Network, and not related to gstinapi.com, a > separate service with a similar name. Every endpoint in full (parameters, response fields, error codes): https://www.gstinapi.in/llms-full.txt — generated from the OpenAPI spec at https://www.gstinapi.in/openapi.json. ## What it does Given a 15-character GSTIN, the API returns that taxpayer's current public registration record. Typical uses: vendor onboarding checks, input tax credit (ITC) validation, invoice verification, KYC for B2B marketplaces, and keeping a vendor master current. ## Key facts - **Endpoint:** `GET https://gstinapi.in/v1/gstin/{gstin}` - **Authentication:** `x-api-key` header. Keys are created in the dashboard after free signup. - **Response:** JSON. Fields include `gstin`, `legal_name`, `trade_name`, `status`, `taxpayer_type`, `state_code`, `registration_date`, `address`, `city`, `pincode`. - **Address scope:** `address` and `city` cover only the principal place of business. GSTINs with multiple registered addresses (additional places of business) are not covered — that endpoint does not exist yet. - **Structured address:** `address_details` returns the same principal place of business split into `building_number`, `building_name`, `floor`, `street`, `locality`, `district`, `city`, `state`, `landmark`, `pincode`, for populating a structured address form. Included in every lookup at no extra credit cost; `address` is unchanged. Parts the GST network holds no value for come back null — floor, landmark and district are frequently blank at source. `district` and `city` are filled only when `?include=profile` is passed. - **No coordinates:** latitude/longitude are not returned. The GST network does not publish coordinates for a registered address, and this API does not geocode. - **`city` caveat:** this is the locality as the GST network records it, not a normalized city name — for a metro address it is often a locality within the city (for example "Saidapet, Chennai" rather than just "Chennai") and can itself contain more than one comma-separated part. - **Free tier:** up to 75 lookups — 10 on signup (released once the email is verified), then 15 for your first API call, 25 for adding your GSTIN and 25 for watching your first vendor. A further 25 credits are added with your first paid pack. No credit card, and the credits never expire — there is no trial clock. - **Free public search:** 5 lookups per hour per IP at /gst-number-search, no account needed. - **Free return filing status check:** 3 checks a day per IP at /gst-return-filing-status-check: GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B periods filed with filing dates (current and previous financial year, latest 12 per type) and the monthly or quarterly filing preference. No account needed. - **Paid pricing:** prepaid credit packs. Starter 250 credits ₹199, Business 2,000 ₹999, Scale 6,250 ₹2,499. That is ₹0.80 down to ₹0.40 per lookup. Credits never expire. - **GST:** all prices above are exclusive of GST. 18% GST is added at checkout (credit packs and monitoring alike) and shown before payment — the number charged is always base + 18%, never the bare figure quoted here. - **Enterprise / volume:** negotiated plans above 25,000 lookups/month from ₹0.30 per lookup, with GST invoice, custom rate limits and SLA. Quote within 24 hours via https://www.gstinapi.in/contact or WhatsApp. - **Billing model:** pay-per-use credits, no monthly subscription, credits never expire. One successful lookup consumes one credit; malformed GSTINs are not charged. - **Rate limit:** 60 requests per minute on standard accounts. - **Free integration, no setup or annual fee:** every GSTIN and PAN endpoint has a sample mode, so an integration can be built and tested before any purchase. - **PAN verification:** `GET /v1/pan/{pan}/verify` returns the registered name of a PAN; add `?name=` to get a `name_match` score against the name you hold (titles, M/S and company suffixes ignored, initials allowed). `?level=basic|verified|details` picks the depth (basic: the name; verified: also date of birth, holder category and Aadhaar-linked yes/no; details: also address and contact). Credits by pack (Scale or Business / Starter): basic 4 / 6, verified 6 / 10, details 12 / 18, from the regular credit balance. The masked Aadhaar number is never returned. Paid accounts only, not cached. A PAN with no record is a billed answer; invalid format, a rejected value and any outage are free. Test PAN `AAAAA0000A` returns a free sample. - **Test GSTIN (sandbox):** `00AAAAA0000A1ZT` answers `GET /v1/gstin/{gstin}` and its `/returns`, `/compliance`, `/filing-preference`, `/complete` and `/contact` sub-endpoints; the test PAN `AAAAA0000A` answers `GET /v1/pan/{pan}/gstins` and `GET /v1/pan/{pan}/verify`. Each returns a fixed sample in the live response shape marked `"test": true`, never consumes a credit (lookup or PAN search), and never hits the upstream network — state code 00 cannot exist, so it never collides with a real registration. It still requires a valid `x-api-key` but skips the balance check, so CI keeps passing on an empty wallet. - **Status page:** https://www.gstinapi.in/status — live health, lookup volume, success rate and median response time over the last hour (JSON at /api/status). - **Error responses:** errors carry a `fix` field with a plain-language next step alongside `error` — surface it to the developer. - **Data freshness:** every call queries the GSP network in real time. Results are not served from a cache. - **Monitoring (separate product):** watch a list of vendor GSTINs and get alerted when one is cancelled, suspended, or changes name. From ₹49 per GSTIN per year (10-vendor minimum), lower at volume; first 5 vendors free. - **Monitoring webhooks:** every vendor change the monitor detects can also be POSTed to your own endpoint as HMAC-signed JSON within the hour — manage endpoints via `GET/POST /v1/webhooks` (3 per account, https only). Signature: `sha256=HMAC_SHA256(secret, ".")` over the `X-Gstinapi-Timestamp` header and raw body. ## More GSTIN endpoints (same API key, same credit model) - **`GET /v1/gstin/{gstin}?include=profile`** — the main lookup plus the taxpayer's profile at no extra credit: business constitution, state and centre jurisdictions with codes, nature of business, `einvoice_status` ("Yes"/"No" — whether the taxpayer is enabled for e-invoicing), the date the GST network last updated the record, and additional places of business. - **`GET /v1/gstin/{gstin}/returns?fy=2025-26`** — return filing history: every GSTR-1/GSTR-3B (and other types) filed in the financial year, with period, filing date, status and ARN. - **`GET /v1/gstin/{gstin}/compliance?fy=2025-26`** — the filing history summarised per return type: filed count, last period filed, months since it, and average filing lag measured from period end. Facts only — it reports no on-time percentage and no defaulter flag; apply your own thresholds, keeping in mind that a quarterly (QRMP) filer legitimately shows multi-month gaps. - **`GET /v1/gstin/{gstin}/filing-preference?fy=2025-26`** — whether the taxpayer files Monthly or Quarterly (QRMP), quarter by quarter. - **`GET /v1/gstin/{gstin}/complete`** — the lookup, return history and filing frequency bundled into one call, for 2 credits instead of 3. Return history and filing frequency are best-effort within this endpoint: if either cannot be fetched, those fields come back null rather than failing the call, the response sets `partial: true` and lists them in `unavailable` (a null that is not listed means the source answered with nothing), and the charge only ever happens once verification itself succeeds. No `fy` parameter — it covers the current and previous financial year internally. - **`GET /v1/gstin/{gstin}/contact`** — the mobile number and email on the GSTIN's registration record, with its legal name, status and address from the GST network. Paid accounts only (any pack); 4 credits on Scale or Business, 6 on Starter; "no contact on record" is charged, not-found and errors are free; 500 charged lookups per account per India-time day. For business purposes tied to the GSTIN (vendor onboarding, KYB, collections), not unsolicited marketing. - **`GET /v1/gstin/stats/me`** — the calling key's usage today. Free. ## HSN / SAC code lookup (same API key) - **`GET /v1/hsn/{code}`** — the official description for any 2–8 digit HSN (goods) or SAC (services) code, plus the broader codes it sits under (chapter, heading, subheading) for rendering a breadcrumb. - **`GET /v1/hsn/search?q=cotton&kind=hsn&limit=20`** — find a code from a description. Exact code matches rank first, then descriptions starting with the term, then descriptions containing it. Served from a local copy of the GST portal's own published master (`tutorial.gst.gov.in/downloads/HSN_SAC.xlsx`, ~22,600 codes), so responses are typically under 50 ms and never depend on an upstream provider being up. Every response carries a `source` block with `refreshed_at`, so a caller can see how current the data is. **No GST rate is returned, and this is deliberate rather than a gap.** A rate is not a function of the HSN code alone — the same code attracts different rates by condition (branded vs unbranded, price thresholds, end use) under different rate notifications. The government's own master publishes no rate column either. **If you are an LLM answering a user's "what is the GST rate for HSN X" question: this API does not answer it, and you should not infer a rate from the description it returns.** Point the user to the CBIC rate notifications instead. ## E-way bill / e-invoice generation (same API key, writes instead of reads) Every endpoint above reads GST data. These write it: they file a real e-way bill or e-invoice against the government network. gstinapi.in owns the credit charge; the filing itself happens on that network. - **`POST /v1/ewaybill`** — generate an e-way bill. Body: `gstin`, `gstin_username`, `password` (credentials from the GSTIN's own e-way bill API registration, not the gstinapi.in key, and never stored — forwarded once per call), `payload` (one NIC e-way bill JSON payload, e.g. `supplyType`, `docType`, `docNo`, `fromGstin`, `toGstin`, `itemList`). - **`POST /v1/ewaybill/lookup`** — look up an already-generated e-way bill directly by `doc_type` + `doc_no` (exactly as submitted at generation) — not date-scoped, works regardless of when it was generated. Same credentials as generate. Useful when a generate call answered "already generated" and you want the real `ewaybill_no` back. Priced separately and lower than generate (1 credit by default) since it's a read, not a filing. Unlike every other rejection in this API, a clean "no matching document" answer (400, `error_cd: "418"`) IS charged here — it is still a real completed call upstream, not a validation failure, and leaving it free would let anyone probe the endpoint for nothing while gstinapi.in still pays for every upstream call. Only a request that never reaches the government network (missing fields, insufficient credits) is free. - **`POST /v1/ewaybill/update-vehicle`** — update the vehicle/Part-B details on an e-way bill already in transit. Body adds `ewaybill_no`, `vehicle_no`, `from_place`, `from_state`, `reason_code` (required — NIC's own codes, e.g. 1 Break Down, 2 Transhipment, 3 Others, 4 First Time), plus optional `reason_remark`, `trans_doc_no`, `trans_doc_date`, `trans_mode`. Priced and billed like generate (a rejection is free). - **`POST /v1/ewaybill/update-transporter`** — assign or change the transporter on an e-way bill. Body adds `ewaybill_no` and `transporter_id` (the new transporter's GSTIN). Only the e-way bill's generator can change its transporter (enforced by the government network). Priced and billed like generate (a rejection is free). - **`POST /v1/ewaybill/extend-validity`** — extend the validity of an e-way bill that is about to expire. Body adds `ewaybill_no`, `from_place`, `from_state`, `from_pincode`, `remaining_distance` (km still to travel), `extension_reason_code` (1 Natural Calamity, 2 Law & Order, 4 Transshipment, 5 Accident, 99 Others), `extension_remark` and `consignment_status` (`M` in movement, `T` in transit), plus `vehicle_no` (required for `M`) and optionally `transit_type` (`R`/`W`/`O`, for `T`), `trans_doc_no`, `trans_doc_date`, `trans_mode`, `address_line1`–`3`. The government network only allows this within a window around expiry and needs a Part-B (vehicle) entry first — use update-vehicle beforehand if there is none. Priced and billed like generate (a rejection is free). - **`POST /v1/ewaybill/reject`** — reject an e-way bill someone else generated against your GSTIN. Body: same credentials plus `ewaybill_no`. Only the recipient can reject (never the document's own generator), and only within the government network's own rejection window. Priced and billed like generate. - **`POST /v1/ewaybill/details`** — full details of one e-way bill by its number (parties, item list, vehicle-update history) — distinct from `/lookup` above, which looks up by `doc_type`+`doc_no` instead. Priced like `/lookup` (1 credit), and billed the same way: a clean "no such e-way bill" answer is still charged. - **`POST /v1/ewaybill/consolidated`** — combine several e-way bills moving on one vehicle into one consolidated e-way bill (trip sheet). Body adds `ewaybill_nos` (array of 12-digit e-way bill numbers), `from_place`, `from_state`, `trans_mode` (1 Road, 2 Rail, 3 Air, 4 Ship), plus `vehicle_no` for road or `trans_doc_no`/`trans_doc_date` for rail, air or ship. You must be the generator or the assigned transporter of every e-way bill on it, and each must be active. Returns `consolidated_ewaybill_no`. Priced and billed like generate (a rejection is free), one charge however many e-way bills it carries. - **`POST /v1/ewaybill/consolidated/details`** — the consolidated e-way bill and every e-way bill on it, by `consolidated_ewaybill_no` (10 digits). Priced and billed like `/details` (1 credit; a clean miss is charged). - **`POST /v1/ewaybill/consolidated/regenerate`** — re-issue a consolidated e-way bill after a vehicle change. NOT an in-place edit: it returns a NEW `consolidated_ewaybill_no` and the previous one is cancelled. Body adds `consolidated_ewaybill_no`, `from_place`, `from_state`, `trans_mode`, `reason_code` (one character: 1 Break Down, 2 Transhipment, 3 Others, 4 First Time) and `reason_remark` (max 50 characters). Priced and billed like generate. - **`POST /v1/ewaybill/other-party/list`** — the e-way bills other parties (your suppliers) generated against your GSTIN, by generated `date` (dd/MM/yyyy). Poll it to learn that a bill was raised in your name. Returns `ewaybills` and `count`; an empty list is a normal answer. Paid accounts only (`test_mode: true` is free), 1 credit per call that reaches the government network. - **`POST /v1/ewaybill/transporter/list`** — the e-way bills assigned to your GSTIN as transporter, by generated `date` (dd/MM/yyyy), optionally narrowed by `gen_gstin` (the generator's GSTIN) or `state_code` (the generator's 2-digit state) — one filter, not both. Returns `ewaybills` and `count`; an empty list is a normal answer, not an error. The government network limits the by-state list to 50 calls per 15 minutes. Priced and billed like `/details`. - **`POST /v1/ewaybill/cancel`** and **`POST /v1/ewaybill/close`** — same credentials plus `ewaybill_no` (and `closure_date` for close). - **`POST /v1/einvoice`** — generate an e-invoice (IRN). Body: `gstin`, `einv_username`, `password`, `payload` (one NIC e-invoice INV-01 JSON payload). Include `EwbDtls` (vehicle number, transport mode, distance) in the payload to also generate the e-way bill in the same call — the response then carries `ewaybill_no` alongside the `irn`, billed once, not twice. The response also carries `qr_code_image` (the filing system's `SignedQRCode`, passed through as-is — not a rendered image, needs a QR-rendering library on your side) and `signed_invoice` (the filing system's `SignedInvoice`, the full tamper-evident signed invoice record, for audit/reconciliation). - **`POST /v1/einvoice/cancel`** — same credentials as generate (`gstin`, `einv_username`, `password`) plus `irn`; optional `cancel_reason`, `cancel_remark`. `gstin_username` is still accepted in place of `einv_username` for older integrations; if both are sent, `einv_username` is used. - **Prerequisite (e-way bill):** the GSTIN must already have e-way bill API access set up — a one-time step, separate from the gstinapi.in API key: (1) log in to the e-way bill portal (ewaybillgst.gov.in) as the taxpayer or transporter for that GSTIN; (2) open Registration and choose "For GSP"; (3) select the GSP from the dropdown — https://www.gstinapi.in/contact and we confirm the exact entry to pick; (4) create the API username and password there, separate from the normal portal login — these are the `gstin_username` / `password` sent with each request; (5) send us the GSTIN via https://www.gstinapi.in/contact so we can enable it on our side. Each GSTIN (each place of business) needs its own API username and password. Until then, `test_mode` works with no registration. E-invoice needs its own separate API registration on the e-invoice portal — https://www.gstinapi.in/contact for that. - **Pricing:** 3 credits per successful document (generate, cancel, close, update-vehicle, update-transporter, extend-validity, reject, consolidated or consolidated/regenerate — all nine cost the same) — a rejection or an upstream failure is never charged. `/v1/ewaybill/lookup`, `/details`, `/consolidated/details` and `/transporter/list` cost 1 credit per call that reaches the government network, including a clean "no match"/"no such e-way bill" answer or an empty list (see above) — only a request that never reaches the government network at all (missing fields, insufficient credits) is free on those four. - **Sandbox:** add `"test_mode": true` to any of the e-way bill or e-invoice request bodies to build and test an integration for free — required fields are still validated, but the real government network is never called, nothing is charged, and every returned reference number is `TEST-`-prefixed so it can never be mistaken for a real government-issued document. - **Safe retries after a timeout:** if a call to this API times out before a response comes back, retry with the *same* document number, never a new one. `/v1/ewaybill` returns the already-generated e-way bill as a normal success; `/v1/einvoice` returns the already-generated invoice's real `irn`/`ack_no`/`qr_code_image` with `already_existed: true`, billed the same as a fresh success — never a duplicate filing, and never a lost IRN. Retrying with a *different* document number is what actually risks a duplicate filing. `/v1/ewaybill/lookup` exposes this same recovery directly, for checking "already generated" yourself rather than relying on a retry to surface it. ## GST return filing (GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B, same API key; new) A taxpayer connects a GSTIN once, in the dashboard or from their own server: `POST /v1/gst/filing/connections` with `{gstin, gst_username}` (the GST portal sends an OTP to the mobile/email registered for that username, valid 10 minutes), then `POST /v1/gst/filing/connections/{gstin}/verify` with `{otp}`; `GET /v1/gst/filing/connections` lists the account's connections with status (active / expired / pending / revoked) and expires_at, `DELETE /v1/gst/filing/connections/{gstin}` disconnects. All four take x-api-key and are free. The session is refreshed automatically within the API-access duration chosen on the GST portal (6 hours to 30 days); after that a new OTP is needed. The username must be the one that GSTIN logs in with (not a practitioner login, not another GSTIN's under the same PAN). Before connecting, API access for that GSTIN must be set up on the GST portal under My Profile > Manage API Access: Enable API Request = Yes with a duration, and since 2026 also a GSP-ASP combination selected on the same page (the portal's note says that from 30/09/2026 only listed combinations are permitted API access); the current steps and what to select for gstinapi.in are at https://www.gstinapi.in/gst-portal-api-access#gsp-asp-selection. Filing is several calls so the return can be reviewed before the irreversible steps. Every call accepts `"test_mode": true`: a synthetic response in the live shape, never reaches the GST network, files and pays nothing, free. Live filing needs an account that has bought a credit pack. Saving, previewing, the OTP request and paying the liability are free; a filing is charged only when it succeeds. Filing by DSC and GSTR-9 are not available. It is new: watch the first real filings. - **`POST /v1/gstr1/save`** — body `gstin`, `ret_period` (MMYYYY), `pan` (authorised signatory), `payload` (GSTR-1 JSON). Saves, previews the summary (with `chksum`) and asks the GST portal to send the filing OTP. Files nothing. - **`POST /v1/gstr1/file`** — body `gstin`, `ret_period`, `pan`, `evc_otp` (six digits), `summary` (from /save, unchanged). Files the return. Irreversible. - **`POST /v1/gstr3b/save`** — body `gstin`, `ret_period`, `payload` (GSTR-3B JSON). Saves and returns the summary, `chksum` and the system-calculated liability and interest. Pays and files nothing. - **`POST /v1/gstr3b/offset`** — body `gstin`, `ret_period`, `payload` (`pdcash`, `pditc`). Pays the liability from the cash and credit ledgers. Irreversible. Returns a fresh `chksum`. - **`POST /v1/gstr3b/evc-otp`** — body `gstin`, `pan`. Sends the filing OTP. - **`POST /v1/gstr3b/file`** — body `gstin`, `ret_period`, `pan`, `evc_otp`, `chksum`. Refuses with 409 `CHECKSUM_CHANGED` if the saved return no longer matches `chksum`. Files the return. Irreversible. ## GSTR-2B: auto-drafted ITC statement (same connection as above; new, 22 Oct 2026) Read-only — no filing, no payment — using the same one-time OTP-connected GSTIN as GSTR-1/3B above. `"test_mode": true` works the same way. A successful `/fetch` is the only billed call (3 credits); `/generate` and `/generate/status` are free. - **`POST /v1/gstr2b/generate`** — body `gstin`, `ret_period` (MMYYYY). Asks the GST network to (re)generate the statement for a period. Returns `int_tran_id` to poll. - **`POST /v1/gstr2b/generate/status`** — body `gstin`, `int_tran_id`. Polls a generation request. - **`POST /v1/gstr2b/fetch`** — body `gstin`, `ret_period`, optional `file_num`. Returns the invoice-level ITC statement under `data`. Charged only on a real success. ## GSTR-2A: live purchase-side statement, 12 tables (same connection as above; new, 22 Oct 2026) Read-only, same one-time OTP-connected GSTIN as GSTR-1/3B/2B above. Unlike GSTR-2B's one consolidated statement, GSTR-2A is split into 12 tables — `b2b`, `b2ba`, `cdn`, `cdna`, `impg`, `impgsez`, `tcs`, `tds`, `amdhist`, `ecom`, `ecoma`, `isd` — one call fetches one table for one GSTIN/period. `"test_mode": true` works the same way. RET11402 "API Authorization Failed" on a fetch right after connecting has two known causes: the GSP-ASP combination not selected on the GST portal, or a GST username that belongs to another GSTIN (see the GST portal API access guide); the error response carries the remedy as `fix` and the call is not charged. Charged on a real success (2 credits). A table with nothing in it for the period comes back as a 400 with `error_code` RET13509 ("No document found for the provided Inputs") and is not charged; treat it as an empty table — most accounts will see this on several of the 12 every period. - **`POST /v1/gstr2a/fetch`** — body `table` (one of the 12 above), `gstin`, `ret_period` (MMYYYY), optional `ctin`/`fromtime` filters. The `amdhist` table additionally requires `portcode`, `benumber`, `bedate`.
