Yes — as a free start, not as unlimited. gstinapi.in gives every account up to 100 free live GSTIN lookups with no credit card, and the credits never expire. Here is what every provider’s free tier really is.
| Option | What is free | The catch | Form |
|---|---|---|---|
| gstinapi.in | Up to 100 free lookups: 25 on signup (after email verification) and 25 for each of three dashboard setup steps. | Credits never expire. No card. Unregistered numbers, malformed numbers and provider errors are never charged. | REST API, live data |
| gstinapi.in free GST number search | A browser tool for one-off checks — no account, no key. | Subject to a daily limit; it is a web page, not an API you can call from code. | Web page |
| Appyflow | 50 free requests. | One-time quota. | REST API |
| gstincheck.co.in | 20 free verifications. | One-time; paid packs are valid for one year. | REST API |
| Cashfree | Free credits worth ₹100 for new accounts. | Trial credits; the per-lookup rate afterwards is not published. | REST API |
| Surepass | Sandbox access with a free account. | Trial size and per-lookup price are not shown on the page. | REST API |
Other providers' figures are what their own pages state, read on September 19, 2026: appyflow.in/verify-gst, gstincheck.co.in/pricing.html, cashfree.com/gst-verification, surepass.io/gst-verification-api. Trials change — confirm with the provider, and tell us if anything here is out of date. A full price comparison is on the provider comparison page.
A live GST lookup asks the GST network about a real registration, through a licensed GST Suvidha Provider that bills for every call. Someone pays for each lookup, which is why every free tier above is a fixed allowance rather than a promise of unlimited use.
The GST portal itself is not a free API either. Its API access is meant for taxpayers filing through an ASP or GSP, with a registered application and OTP flows, and its public taxpayer search is a manual web form. A free GST API that will not say where its data comes from is usually one of two things: a script driving that form, which breaks without warning, or a cache, which will not show a cancellation that happened this morning. Every gstinapi.in lookup hits the live GST network — nothing is served from a cache.
Validate the checksum offline first
A GSTIN’s last character is a check digit. A typo fails that check without any network call, so it never spends a credit. The official gstinapi libraries for Node.js and Python do this for you, and the free GST number search page shows the calculation.
Use the free test GSTIN in your CI
00AAAAA0000A1ZT returns a fixed, real-shaped response and never consumes a credit, so tests keep passing when the balance is empty.
Failed lookups are free
A malformed GSTIN, a GSTIN the GST network has no record of, and a provider error are all billed at zero. Only a successful lookup costs a credit.
Do not re-check what has not changed
A registration changes rarely. For vendors you deal with repeatedly, monitoring re-checks them on a schedule and tells you when something changes, instead of you burning lookups to find out.
One credit per successful lookup, prepaid packs, no expiry, no subscription. Prices exclude 18% GST.

Yes, in the sense of a free start. gstinapi.in gives every account up to 100 free lookups — 25 on signup and 25 for each of three setup steps — with no credit card, and the credits never expire. Other providers offer one-time trials of 20 to 50 requests or a few hundred rupees of credit. No provider we found offers unlimited free live GST verification.
Live GST data comes from a licensed GST Suvidha Provider (GSP), and a GSP charges for every call. Someone has to pay for each lookup, so free tiers are trials. Be careful with any free GST API that does not say where its data comes from: the alternatives are automating the public portal’s captcha form, which is not a stable or permitted integration, or serving old cached data that misses a cancellation from this morning.
Not an API. Without an account there is nothing to attach a key to, so what exists without signup is a web page: the free GST number search on gstinapi.in lets you check one GSTIN in the browser, subject to a daily limit. To call it from code you need an account and an API key.
The GST portal’s API access is meant for taxpayers filing through an ASP or GSP and needs a registered application and OTP flows. It is not a lookup service for arbitrary GSTINs. The portal’s public taxpayer search is free but is a manual web form. gstinapi.in sits on top of GSP infrastructure and exposes a plain REST API, so there is nothing to enable on the GST portal.
You buy a prepaid credit pack when you want to. Nothing auto-renews and nothing stops working on a date: the credits you buy never expire either. Packs and per-lookup prices are listed on this page and on the pricing page, exclusive of 18% GST.
Yes. A free lookup is an ordinary lookup: legal name, trade name, status, taxpayer type, registration date, cancellation date, address and e-way bill block status, live from the GST network. There is no reduced or delayed free version.
