Verify party GSTINs from Tally, Vyapar or Marg

A party master collects wrong GSTINs over the years: a typo when the party was created, a registration that was later cancelled. None of these three programs has a gstinapi.in connector, and you do not need one. The dependable route is to export the party list to Excel, verify it in bulk, and fix what the check finds.

Up to 100 free lookups — they never expire. No credit card.

1. Export your party list with GSTINs to Excel

TallyPrime: its help documents exporting existing party information to Excel through the Update Party GSTIN report, under GST Reports, and exporting a master such as the ledger list with Alt+E.

Marg ERP: its help documents Masters, Ease of GST, Party GST No./State Updation. On the Party Master window press F10 and choose Export to get the party list.

Vyapar: it exports its reports to Excel and can import parties from an Excel sheet. Its documentation we could read does not spell out the party-list export steps, so check Vyapar help for the current route in your version.

Menu names differ between versions of all three, so treat the paths above as pointers to the vendor help pages, not a script to follow blindly. What you need at the end is an .xlsx file with one column holding the GSTIN.

2. Run the file through Bulk GSTIN Check

In the dashboard open Bulk GSTIN Check and upload the .xlsx file. It finds the GSTIN column from its header (a column named GST No., GSTIN, or anything containing GST) and fills in the legal name, trade name, registration date, constitution, status, taxpayer type, address, filing frequency and the GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B filed-till dates. Your other columns are left as they were.

It costs 1 credit per GSTIN that resolves with Search, or 2 credits with Profile (adds filing dates); malformed numbers and numbers the GST network has no record of are free. A file can hold up to 2,000 rows. If your party list is longer, split it.

3. Act on what it finds

Filter the status column. Cancelled and suspended registrations are the ones to deal with before you claim input tax credit on their invoices. Rows marked not found usually mean a typo in the GSTIN; correct them from the vendor’s invoice and run the file again.

Compare the returned legal name with the party name in your books. A GSTIN that is active but belongs to a different business is a data-entry error worth catching. The filed-till columns show which vendors are behind on GSTR-1 or GSTR-3B.

To correct GSTINs in your accounting program, both TallyPrime and Marg document importing party GSTINs from an Excel sheet; follow their help pages above, and review the changes before you import rather than loading the whole file blindly.

4. Stop re-checking by hand

A clean party list goes stale: registrations get cancelled after you checked. Vendor monitoring re-checks a list you choose every day, week or month and emails you when a registration is cancelled, suspended or renamed. The first five vendors are free.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a direct gstinapi.in plugin for Tally, Vyapar or Marg?

No. There is no plugin or connector for any of the three. The Excel export and upload route described here works with any of them, and with any other accounting software that can export a party list to Excel.

Can a developer automate this without Excel?

Yes. A script can read the exported file and call the API for each GSTIN. The language guides for Python, Node.js, PHP and C# show the request, the checksum validation and the retry policy.

What does checking my whole party list cost?

One credit per GSTIN that resolves, so a list of 500 parties costs at most 500 credits and less if some numbers are malformed or unregistered. Every account starts with up to 100 free lookups, and credits never expire.

How is the check different from validating the GSTIN format?

Format validation checks the 15 characters and the check digit and catches typos offline. Verification asks the GST network whether the registration exists and is active. A number can pass validation and still belong to a cancelled registration. The bulk check runs the live lookup.

Does verifying a GSTIN change anything in my accounting data?

No. You export a copy, check the copy and get a filled-in copy back. Nothing is written to Tally, Vyapar or Marg unless you choose to import corrections yourself.
