How the search works
A GSTIN contains its holder’s PAN: characters 3 to 12 are the PAN, the first two are the state code and the last is a check character. So for any PAN, the GSTIN it would hold in each state can be worked out exactly.
The GST portal has a manual Search by PAN page, but as far as we know no public API for it. This endpoint therefore builds the possible GSTIN for each of the 36 current state and union territory codes and checks every one against the live GST network. The ones that exist come back with their full registration record, the same record a direct GSTIN lookup returns.

If incomplete is present, the list may be missing a registration in the states named. Run the search again later before treating the list as final.
What it costs
One search costs one PAN credit, whatever the number of states checked or GSTINs found. PAN credits are a separate balance from GSTIN lookup credits, because one search is 36 live lookups behind the scenes.

What is and is not charged
- Prices are before 18% GST.
- A PAN in the wrong format is rejected and not charged.
- If the GST network cannot be reached for the whole scan, nothing is charged.
- The free signup lookups are GSTIN lookup credits. They do not cover PAN searches.
What it does not catch
Only the first registration in each state is checked. A business can hold a second GSTIN in the same state, for a separate business vertical, and that second one is not found by this search. It is uncommon, but if you know a vendor has one, look that GSTIN up directly.
Each key can run 5 PAN searches a minute.

Can I find a GST number from a PAN?
Yes. A GSTIN is built from the PAN, so the possible GSTIN in every state can be worked out and checked. GET /v1/pan/{pan}/gstins does that across all 36 state codes and returns every registration that exists.
How much does a PAN to GSTIN search cost?
₹3.50 a search before 18% GST, bought in packs of 250, 1,000 or 5,000. It is one flat charge per search, not a charge per state or per GSTIN found.
Why is a PAN search priced differently from a GSTIN lookup?
One PAN search runs 36 live GSTIN checks, one per state code. A GSTIN lookup runs one. The two are kept on separate balances so the price of each stays predictable.
Does it find cancelled registrations too?
Yes. Every GSTIN that exists under the PAN is returned with its status, so cancelled and suspended registrations appear alongside active ones. The active count tells you how many are currently active.
Can one PAN have more than one GSTIN in the same state?
Yes, for separate business verticals, though it is uncommon. This search checks the first registration in each state only, so a second GSTIN in the same state has to be looked up directly.
Is a failed search charged?
No. An invalid PAN format and a scan where the GST network could not be reached at all are both free.
Can I build the integration before buying a pack?
Yes. GET /v1/pan/AAAAA0000A/gstins with your API key returns a sample result in the live response shape. It works on an empty PAN search balance and is never charged, so you can finish the integration first and buy a pack when you switch to real PANs. There is no setup or annual fee.
