PAN verification API: check a PAN and match the holder name

Choose how much you need with the level parameter. The default is basic.

Add the name query parameter and the response carries name_match, a score from 0 to 100 and a matched flag, true at 80 or more. The comparison works on words, not exact text: titles such as Mr, Mrs and Shri and company suffixes such as Pvt Ltd and Limited are ignored, word order does not matter, and a single initial matches a full first name, so R Kumar Shah matches Ramesh Kumar Shah.

It is a hint for your own decision, not a legal identity check. A missing middle name is a partial match and can fall below the threshold, so decide what score your process accepts.

GET /v1/pan/AAPFU0939F/verify?level=basic&name=Ramesh%20Kumar%20Shah with your key in the x-api-key header returns the registered name, the PAN status and the match result.

PAN verification spends the same credits as the rest of gstinapi.in, at a rate set by the best pack your account has ever bought. In rupees, before 18% GST, that is:

• A PAN with no record is charged, because the lookup was made, and the response says so.
• A malformed PAN, a value the source rejects and any failure on our side or the source’s cost nothing.
• Credits are shared with GSTIN lookups and never expire.

• It checks a PAN and returns the registered name. It does not confirm that the person in front of you owns that PAN: that needs your own identity check.
• The masked Aadhaar number is never returned, only whether one is linked.
• Nothing is cached. Each call asks the source, and the answer is not kept beyond a usage log of the PAN, status and time.
• Date of birth, address and contact are personal data. Use them for the purpose you looked them up for, and make sure you have the right to verify the PAN you submit.
• To find the GSTINs a PAN holds, use the PAN to GSTIN search instead; this endpoint is about the person or firm behind the PAN.
